- With streaming, it does not matter about reaching the most viewers anymore. Niche is taking over. Is that good? Even the NFL is getting into this, which is an. They are a mainstay of broadcast TV live events. Now, they reached a deal with Amazon Prime for Thursday night football. So, if you do not have that, you cannot watch Thursday Night Football. No matter I guess since they started the NFL Network, you could see this coming. MLB network is trying the same thing. All sports will go to a pay service and that means we must make the choice of not watching something unless we buy every single service. Nope, I will not do that. There is a limit to how many pay services one will buy.
- After a dismal showing for the Grammys on CBS (8.8 million viewers), the salute show did not fare any better. On March 17, CBS aired "Grammys Salute to the Sounds of Change." It only got 1.51 million viewers. That is awful. Ratings here. The people who the Grammys were catering to on both of these shows apparently do not care to see their favorite stars, and do not watch TV. So, why put these categories and singers on TV? Put back the pop/rock and R&B categories, and country. Those viewers are more loyal to traditional ways on consuming music. BEFORE: Pandemic should mean more viewers, not less. Awards shows are PR campaigns designed to sell product. Media will never accept the real reason for the drop of all these type of shows. It is the lectures, the woke culture that is driving people to TUNE out. For others, it is the product. They just do not like the product. They do not have to like what Hollywood is selling.
* Newspapers and other forms of media should have never allowed their content to be grabbed up by social media without some cost. Now, rushing to put up pay walls and the like may be too little too late. My college newspaper, The Daily Vidette (Illinois State University) is ceasing its print publication after 133 years. That is sad on many levels but it was a learning tool for me since I worked there for 3 years. I also got paid to do that, while getting my degree.
- The Black and White film genre is my favorite so "Mank" leading the way with 10 Oscar noms is fine by me. And "Citizen Kane" is a great film. The MANK comes for Herman Mankiewicz, who co-wrote "Citizen Kane" with Orson Welles.
