Fairness in reporting took a hit as I read quite a few headlines suggesting the NFL draft beat the Oscars in ratings. Now, many of these headlines came from the same outlets that never updated the final Oscar numbers (10.4 million). The NFL draft was held on three networks on opening night. It saw 12.52 million viewers. And because of that, the digging came in to say it beat the Oscars. But, did it? Not really. If you break out the ratings on each network, none of them beat the Oscars head-to-head. But, they added them up to get 12.52. Sorry, that does not cut it here. And you cannot and should not take a show that is on one network (The Oscars) and compare it to a show that was on three networks. The NFL draft on ABC had 4.24 million viewers. See here - ESPN, 6.4 million; NFL Network, 1.87 million ...be careful, someone will add up all the days it aired and pass that off as a total number.
Biden speech totals: * now I saw headlines suggesting 11.6 million viewers tuned in and that is real low. But that was just for the broadcast nets (ABC, CBS, NBC. They left out regular Fox). To be fair, a live event on multiple channels needs to wait for all of them to report, and then break them down. See here.
Viewers in millions
ABC - 4.19 million
CBS - 3.44 million
NBC - 2.96 million
Regular Fox - 1.69 million
Total = 12.27
CNN - 3.35 million
MSNBC - 4.12 million
Fox News - 3 million
Total = 10.47
Grand total here = 22.74 million
- Hunter Biden speaker or teaching - - I do not understand it either, but they way I see it, he is a guest speaker for one class. There are nine others. It is a 10-week online class. Hardly teaching and more just spouting as a guest speaker.
- There should be a movie made about the life of Sammy Davis Jr. He was so darn good.
- Humor is often the best way to get me to change some bad habits. The commercial for Progressive and Dr. Rick helping us NOT become our parents is genius. I do some of those things and boy, do I notice them even more now - and laugh each time. Some I love:
* "The waiter does not need to know your name."
* "You got up early. No one cares."
* "We all see it, we all see it."
* "He didn't ask for your help, did he?"
- The phrase "now, more than ever" is dumb. Stop it. All generations can say that when it comes to certain things.
- It is time to put the term "narrative" to rest for a while. And please, no more with the term "gaslighting."
- I have not figured it out yet, but the way in which we cover tragic events and press conferences that follow, need to be addressed. The exact same things happens no matter what has happened and to whom. Every event is different. We need a new approach newsrooms - start being different and actually more informative, and trustworthy.
- It feels like "Jeopardy" has been cheapened with all the guest hosts. To me, that was the one show that was consistent with its host over the years. Now, it is a celebrity-driven show, and thus, no longer interesting. To me, at least.
- The most-watched movie to air on TV is the most-watched movie ever - still, after all these years. The movie is "Gone With the Wind."
- You can agree with someone but do not have to agree with their opinion on matters. Just nod your head and say "yes," "sure," etc....that stops the argument and the conversation.
- It is now popular for book publishers to NOT publish a book.
- Nothing is truly unscripted on TV, or anywhere.
