- Cable news shows engage in debates which many take for news. It is not. It is OK to wonder how much of that is for show or real. Could you go on a show and rip the other person so bad and then be OK for the rest of the day? That would be hard to do. Or do both sides hate the other side so much that they live for this? Sad if that is the case. If you are a news anchor or a reporter working a beat, you should avoid the debates on these shows. It can ruin your credibility.
- The Masters coverage on CBS was good as usual but with MLB pulling its game out, it felt odd. But, come on, there was no way the Masters would not be in Georgia. It would not be the Masters then. And the All-Star game in baseball is one game that has lost most of its TV audience lately (and it moves every year). MLB has their own problems besides this.
- Media falls for stories that The Rock is considering running for president. Just stop with these nonsense angles. This is still getting play and The Rock himself said he would run if the people want him to. Really?
- The cicadas stories are getting out of hand. It is like we have never been through them before. Why must media always treat everything as if this time it will be the worst, etc.? When a weather person or newscaster quotes someone who starts off with "I have lived here my entire life and have never seen it this bad..." Just let it go. Our memories and emotions are always in the moment - we tend to forget bad times of the past.
- This goes for live news events as well. Those who want to be on TV to give their info these days always amp up the drama. And a reporter who suggests it is the worst they have seen in their time as a reporter is not news - it is anecdotal. In other words, it is meaningless.
- Has Rolling Stone Magazine ruined the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? It feels like it to me. We need more Billboard charts and what people listened to. The groups that ARE NOT in it are very telling.
- Meteor showers can teach us to slow down a bit. It takes patience waiting for them
- When it comes to TV ratings, the overall number is what matters to us, the at home viewer. There is a group that always like to talk about the demos (ad folk). I get that, but a demo is not a win. A demo win is a joke.
“In keeping with our awards-show-as-a-movie approach, we’ve assembled a truly stellar cast of stars. There’s so much wattage here, sunglasses may be required.” - Oscar producers said
OSCAR CAST LIST, so to speak: I do not recall a Oscar poster quite like the one on the left. It has the producers, directors and cast on it. It presents itself more like an actual movie, so it is not a bad thing. And it is the theme this year. For more on award season, head to On Movies.
